Why Do You Need A Belt Tracking System?

Tracking systems are a great way to improve the problematic off-centre travel of the conveyor belt along the conveyor line. Should you wish to support your conveyor belts expected operating life, it is extremely important to ensure the belt remains centred and aligned on your system. If not, the belt will be subjected to wear particularly on the edges, which will result in fraying and decrease of the belts operating potential.

The 5 reasons that could lead to belts will misalignment and mistracking include:
  1. The way the belt was originally manufactured
  2. The actual belt joins
  3. The structure of the operating system
  4. The existing moving componentry
  5. The actual environment or material being loaded.

In most cases, it is a combination of these factors that influence belt movement. If the movement cannot be improved by standard engineering practices, one should then consider utilising belt positioners and trainers to adjust the tracking. Your choice should be considered carefully as there could be negative repercussions for the belt and operating system. All State Conveyors (ASC) are at hand to guide your decision for your tracking system.

Did You Know? In order for a belt to track correctly, idlers and pulleys should be level, aligned and square to the conveyor frame centerline. It is also important to correctly load the conveyed product to the centre of the belt.

ASC Supplies the Durable and Reliable Tracking Systems From SureGuide Such As:

  • Troughing SureGuide (TSG) for toughest Conveyor Systems
  • Return SureGuide (Single Direction) for extreme conditions
  • Reversible SureGuide (Bi-Directional) for extreme conditions

The SureGuide system is able to improve the re-centreing of the belt by moving the SureGuide componentry beneath the belt to adjust the positioning and ensure the belt travels along the middle of the system. This system’s innovative design has also been developed with in-depth understanding of conveyor tracking issues.

The SureGuide Benefits are as Follows:
  • It is a quick installation setup
  • Very minimal maintenance
  • Adds to the working life of the belt
  • Reduces the need for greater future investment with the conveyor

Troughing SureGuide

The Troughing SureGuide® was designed to give incremental adjustments to the load-carrying side of the conveyor belt. This unique design has a fully mechanical robust frame which responds immediately to the slightest of belt misalignments, gently guiding the belt back to the centre of the frame into the troughed section of the conveyor, to ensure your belt remains on track and is capable of meeting your expected delivery requirements.

The Troughing SureGuide is available with 3 or 5 roller systems for high speed and high load belts. The width range available is from 600mm – 2100mm and any customised adjustments or any inclination angles are able to be developed to fit your requirements. This system requires no more maintenance than standard idler frames and its intuitive design is appropriate for the toughest mining environments.

Return SureGuide (Single Direction)

The Return SureGuide® is a quality single directional belt tracking aid, with a centralising return pulley which immediately reacts to belt misalignment. The Return SureGuide® is made of precision turned C.N.C. componentry. Specially hardened steel and precision machining are crafted to manufacture the roller’s inner components with a well-sealed bearing unit. Coupled with corrosion and wear resistant materials, SureGuide® Return Roller is designed to be very durable and effectively performs over extended periods of time, and under extreme conditions.

If Correctly installed, SureGuide® Return Roller will instantly correct belt misalignment on the return side of the belt, thus preventing belt edge and structural damage from occurring. The Return SureGuide is suitable for high speed and high load belts.

The available shaft and roller sizes range are as follows:

  1. 30mm shaft diameter (450-1350mm belt width) – Roller Ø168mm.
  2. 40mm shaft diameter (900-1800mm belt width) – Roller Ø210mm
  3. 50mm shaft diameter (1050-2600mm belt width) – Roller Ø235mm

Customised sizes available to fit your specifications.

Reversible SureGuide (Bi-Directional)

Reversible conveyors pose a significant challenge in terms of belt misalignment. Unlike uni-directional belts, where it is possible to achieve some correction to belt misalignment through the adjustment of pulleys and frames, reversible belts however cannot be corrected as any adjustments made to change misalignment in the forward direction become the problematic when the belt is reversed.

SureGuide has developed the Reversible SureGuide (RSG) to address this issue. Building upon the knowledge and function of the SG return roller they have developed another belt tracking return roller that delivers exceptional performance for reversible belts.

The Reversible SureGuide unit is a robust unit that also allows the shaft to rotate by 90 degrees (depending on direction of belt travel), while still working in both the vertical and horizontal planes. This is achieved by pivoting the shaft in the direction of the travelling belt. The Reversible SureGuide bolts into the same stringer holes as standard idler rollers. It also allows for adjustment of the roller to ensure optimal contact pressure between the belt and RST roller and requires no power source and is quickly installed.

The unit comes with a unique bracket and inspection cover that allows for viewing of the shaft, to confirm that it has rotated in line with belt direction but also allows for adjustment of the roller to ensure that optimal contact pressure between belt and RSG roller is achieved. The RSG is unique and responds instantly to even the smallest amount of belt misalignment. High precision componentry and quality materials ensure that you have a belt-tracking product that will deliver superior performance over an extended period of time.

If Correctly installed, Reversible SureGuide® will instantly correct belt misalignment on the return side of the belt, thus preventing belt edge and structural damage from occurring. The Reversible SureGuide is suitable for high speed and high load belts. The available shaft and roller sizes range are as follows:

  1. 30mm shaft diameter (450-1350mm belt width) – Roller Ø168mm.
  2. 40mm shaft diameter (900-1800mm belt width) – Roller Ø210mm
  3. 50mm shaft diameter (1050-2600mm belt width) – Roller Ø235mm
